RESEARCH PROJECT
Mechanisms of trained immunity induced by Parasitic infection and parasite-derived components Trained immunity refers to a form of innate immune memory in which prior exposure to a stimulus leads to a stronger response upon subsequent encounters with pathogens. While this phenomenon has been increasingly studied in the context of various infections, its role in host defense against parasitic infections, and the mechanisms underlying it, are still not well understood. This study aims to explore how Leishmania infection and its derived components induce and regulate trained immunity. Prior research has shown that β-glucan can enhance host resistance to Toxoplasma gondii, and that certain Leishmania-derived molecules are capable of triggering trained immunity-like responses. Based on these findings, this project will investigate the cellular and molecular basis of this process by examining immune cell function, cytokine production, epigenetic and metabolic reprogramming associated with innate immune activation. Ultimately, this research is expected to provide deeper insight into the mechanisms of host defense against parasitic infections and may help inform the development of new immunotherapeutic strategies and vaccines based on the principles of trained immunity. |
