Chulalongkorn University Researchers Visit Oita for a Global and Local Infectious Diseases Research Seminar (February 20)
On February 20, we welcomed Professor Tanapat Palaga and Lecturer Sita Virakul from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, to Oita for a Global and Local Infectious Diseases Research Seminar. Professor Palaga and Lecturer Virakul are long-standing research collaborators. At the seminar, they presented their latest research:
- Development of a Multistage Tuberculosis Vaccine Using an mRNA Platform — Tanapat Palaga
- The Role of Butyrate in Orbital Fibroblasts from Patients with Graves’ Ophthalmopathy — Sita Virakul
Faculty members and students from Oita University attended the seminar and actively exchanged ideas about the research presented. It was a valuable opportunity to strengthen our scientific exchange with our collaborators and discuss future research collaboration. In addition to the research seminar, the visit had the following objectives: To discuss current research trends in trained immunity and related areas with Prof. Kobayashi and members of his laboratory. To develop a research plan for the joint research program of the Research Center for Global and Local Infectious Diseases (RCGLID). To explore the possibility of establishing a Double Degree Program between the Faculty of Medicine, Oita University, and the Faculties of Science and Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.
The evening before the seminar, on February 19, we held a dinner with faculty members and students from our department. Chikamori, who had previously participated in a research placement at Chulalongkorn University and worked with Professor Palaga and Lecturer Virakul, also joined the dinner, as did Shiina, who had participated in a research placement at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. Maeda and Iijima, who are planning to study in Thailand as part of this year’s research placement program, also joined the dinner and had an opportunity to hear about research and student life in Thailand. It was an enjoyable evening that brought together our long-standing research collaboration, past student exchanges, and the students who will continue these connections through their upcoming experiences in Thailand. |
