Farewell and Welcome Gathering for Nan and Phat (September 24)
On September 24, we held a farewell gathering for Nan-san, who had spent four years pursuing her doctoral studies at Oita University, and a welcome gathering for Phat-san, who will begin her master’s studies this fall. Nan-san came to Japan from Thailand as a recipient of a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship and spent four years conducting research in our department. With her departure for Thailand the following day, faculty members and students gathered to share memories of her time in Oita. Yaeko Sonoda, a sixth-year medical student who had become close to Nan-san, also joined the gathering. Nan-san was presented with a commemorative gift and a message board signed by members of the department. Phat-san had just arrived in Japan that day. She previously joined our department as an exchange student during her research placement last year, where she conducted research under Nan-san’s guidance. Inspired by this experience, she decided to pursue graduate studies at Oita University and will now return to our department as a graduate student. Yuki Chikamori, a sixth-year medical student, and Mao Noda, a fifth-year student, who had also become close to Phat-san during her previous stay, joined the gathering and enjoyed reconnecting with her. It was a warm and memorable evening, bringing together a farewell and a welcome. We wish Nan-san all the best in her future research career in Thailand, and we look forward to Phat-san’s new chapter as a graduate student at Oita University. The evening concluded with a group photo to celebrate Nan-san’s new beginning and welcome Phat-san to our department. |
