Introduction of clinical department

The Department of Pediatric Surgery focuses on general pediatric surgical diseases from the neonatal period to adolescence. We not only treat specialized diseases (e.g., congenital esophageal atresia, congenital intestinal atresia, Hirschsprung’s disease, anal atresia, biliary atresia, congenital biliary dilatation, neuroblastoma), but we also treat commonly encountered diseases (e.g., umbilical hernia, inguinal hernia, scrotal edema, cryptorchidism, acute appendicitis, gastrointestinal foreign bodies, infantile hemorrhoids, perianal abscess) and are able to respond to patients with urgent needs.

We actively perform laparoscopic surgeries to meet the needs of children and their families, such as laparoscopic fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux disease and laparoscopic splenectomy for idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura and hereditary spherocytosis. We have recently been placing subcutaneously implanted central venous catheters in children who need chemotherapy and patients with inguinal hernia are treated in hospital for 3 days and 2 nights using a clinical pathway.

Furthermore, we provide pre- and postoperative management of neonates, premature infants, children with severe motor and intellectual disabilities (SMID), and pediatric cancers in cooperation with the neonatal intensive care unit, pediatrics, and obstetrics to improve treatment outcomes.

In addition, we have opened an outpatient clinic for pediatric constipation and provide detailed care, including dietary guidance and medication.
