Introduction of clinical department

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery covers all diseases arising in the oral cavity and related regions. In particular, oral cancer and cleft lip and palate are the main foci of its treatments. For oral cancer patients, surgical therapy is conducted in collaboration with plastic surgeons and radiation therapists to preserve oral functions as well as ablate cancer cells. In the treatment of cleft lip and palate, the Department constructs a comprehensive treatment program, beginning at the prenatal period (prenatal consultation) and finishing at the adolescence age when the facial and dental growth completes. Related departments and specialists participate in this program, such as gynecologists, pediatricians, otolaryngologists, speech pathologists, orthodontics, among others. Other diseases treated in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery are potentially malignant diseases of the oral mucosa (oral precancerous lesions), odontogenic tumors and cysts of the jaws, jaw deformity, refractory oral mucosal diseases associated with systemic lesions, and dental diseases of compromised patients.
